Beauty: Favourite Five - January

Monday, 27 January 2014

Happy Monday Lovelies!

Over the last few months I have received a few emails asking me about my hair & beauty regime, which led me to think about a new beauty series for 2014. Each month I'll be showing you five products I'm absolutely loving & would recommend to you guys.

I'm not pretending to be the oracle on beauty products or an expert to say the least & I totally admit that I can get sucked in by all that pretty packaging!!! Having said all that, I do believe I can spot a good product when I try one! Of course, I'll be interested to know your thoughts & opinions on any of the products I show you.

The first of my five little gems this month is...

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair - link!

We all know how important sleep is for your skin, but for me, this is the next best thing - I literally call this product "sleep in a bottle"! Advanced Night Repair is certainly the best skin rejuvinating serum I have come across (& I've tried a fair few in my time).
It's specific use is to target ageing, re-hydrate & assist the skins own natural overnight repair process, making your skin look more youthful & radiant.
It sounds pricey at £48 for 30ml or £65 for 50ml (I always buy mine at duty free), but the product really does last. Dispensed via a pipette, you only need a 3-4 drops a night. I've had this bottle (50ml) since mid September, have used it nightly & I still have half a bottle left.

Why I love it...unlike some brands I've tried (naming no names Clinique!) I've seen visible results - a noticeable difference in my fine lines & the overall tone of my skin, which definitely appears more radiant & looks more rested in the morning when I wake up.
This product is a MUST!

Next up...

L'Oreal Elnett Satin Heat Protectant Spray - link!

It's so important to protect your hair from the daily perils of styling, whether it be just the heat of a hairdryer or the more extreme heat from straighteners/curling irons. L'Oreals most recent addition to the Elnett range is this light, non-sitcky heat protectant spray which protects your hair from heat up to 230C degrees.

Why I love it...as well as protecting your hair it also combats flyaways & humidity.
It comes in 3 variations - straight, volume & curl. I use the one for waves, which claims to lock the waves in for up to 3 days, which is perfect for my fine hair which struggles to hold a curl.

Moving on...

YSL Luxurious Mascara Shocking Volume - link!

It's not often a product turns me away from Chanel make up, a brand I have worn for years. Having previously used & sworn by Chanel's Imitable Intense Mascara, there was so much hype about YSL's Shocking Mascara when it launched I couldn't resist giving it a go...it's now become my go to mascara & has been on repeat buy ever since!
It claims to give a false lash effect, a more voluminous seductive look.
Priced at £23.50 it's premium but so worth it!

Here's a mug shot of me wearing it...

Why I love it...it provides just the right amount of product on the brush to cover the lashes, it defines as well as adding volume & really opens the eye, with no clumping issues. I use the pure black colour, which is the blackest mascara I've ever come across & I love this about it. Of course, the packaging is pretty damn slick too!

benefit High Brow - link!

This little pencil is a brow highlighter. It provides an instant lift & lightens up the brow area, which supposedly makes you younger looking (are you noticing a theme with my products!!). I'm also wearing it in the photo above.

benefit high brow - top unblended, bottom lightly blended (so you can still see it)
Why I love it...the linen pink colour is easily blendable, providing a natural looking lift.
Tip: I also use it on my dark circles & put a couple of strokes at the corner of the eye, which again really lightens them up (I'm allergic to under eye concealers such as Touche Eclat).
It's a mere £15 & if it makes me look younger round the eyes it's money well spent!

Last but not least...

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil - link!

I already use Palmer's Cocoa Butter Body Lotion daily to moisturise my body after my morning swim, but I'm normally reluctant to put a pure oil on my body, as I have fairly oily skin as it is. I was gifted the Skin Therapy Oil in a goody bag, so I thought "why not give it a try".
It claims to target scars, stretch marks, dry/damaged skin, uneven skin tone & ageing skin & whilst apart from ageing skin I'm lucky enough not to suffer from the other symptoms.
It costs £9.99 to buy & can also be used as a bath oil.

Why I love it... when applied it absorbs nicely into the skin so there's no greasy residue. My skin feels luxuriously silky smooth after application & of course you get that instantly recognisable exotic cocoa butter smell.

So that's my five for January!
I'd really love to know if you've enjoyed reading the post & would like to see more next month!

Thanks for reading Lovelies
