A Day On A Traditional Turkish Gulet

Wednesday, 10 September 2014

Happy Wednesday Lovelies!

As part of our holiday, all hotel guests were invited to spend a day on board the hotels gulet (sailing boat) free of charge. Unfortunately Ian gets incredibly sea sick, so knew his stomach wouldn't be up to the day out. Not wanting to miss out, I decided to brave the trip & go by myself....and I'm so glad I did...

After climbing on board we were welcomed with a glass of fizz to kick off the trip in style - my kind of sailing!

We then settled in, the staff explained the boat rules to us (ay ay captain!) & it was anchors away...

...heading out to open waters.

The scenery was stunning & it was a wonderful feeling to have the wind in your hair & the sun on your skin.

We soon all made ourselves at home & got chatting. There were 13 of us in total on board & everyone was so friendly.

As we made our way out to small islets it was apparent how rugged the coastline was.

We made several stops throughout the day where we could get off the boat & enjoy a swim in the crystal clear blue sea.
The sea was a lovely temperature, quite salty which meant floating was a breeze.

After a quick hose down back on board it was time to dry off naturally in the sun

Lunch was included in the trip & soon the tables were set. I have to say all that swimming made me peckish!

We started off with four different kinds of Turkish Meze

plenty of crusty bread to share

fish with a side salad & fruit for dessert, all washed down with a couple of glasses of wine.

After lunch had settled, we made our way to another little bay, mooring up to take a swim. There were even shops on the water - ladies trying to sell their little trinkets & scarves - now that's what I call free shipping!

Happy feet...

The day passed quickly & soon it was time to catch the last rays of sun on board & head back into port. Not before having afternoon tea & cake (forgot to photograph as I was too busy stuffing my face!!)

I got back to the hotel & found Ian on a sun lounger round the pool. It was a fabulous day, I met some wonderful people which made the trip more enjoyable.

This reminds me a bit of the boat trip I made in Brazil earlier this year. The food looks delicious and you seem to have thoroughly enjoyed your time.
